Shot through the glass wall of the observatory of the Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre in Lærdal at the Sognefjord. The observatory is kind of an open air aquarium (the fish are outside, the audience inside), and the water flowing through the basin is the real river water channeled from the Lærdal river.

The fish are wild, and these had swum themselves up from the sea and into the basin, where they stayed for a while until they went further up the river to spawn.

Thin slices of sea bream sashimi presented with "just-pressed olive oil" and garnished with shiso buds and chives.

Taste: The first thing that struck me about the taste was that it was EXREMELY salty. While I thought that to be a jarring and unexpected taste, my diner companion didn't notice it until I said something. I'm a salt-lover, so it's interesting that I would have such a reaction where another wouldn't. However, after a few bites, the saltiness mellowed out beneath the fruity "just-pressed olive oil" and the cooling-grassy-herby-minty shiso and savory chive. This course was exquisite. The fish was excruciatingly silky and soft - very tender. I could have cut them with a blunt butter knife.

This view is looking east from Garachico and again was taken on our outing last Sunday. Whilst I love it when the sea does interesting things, here, seemingly mirrored in the sky, likely the sea is doing such things again today as the islands are, apparently, once more on prealert (that's not alert, you understand) because of an "adverse meteorological phenomenon" on the coasts.

The forecast is for adverse conditions between 3 p.m. until night time and, for once, this appears to be accurate. The clouds gathering over the mountains earlier were dark grey and, almost bang on 3 p.m. it began to rain here.

Probably not a day for fishing too close to the sea's edge!

Sea foam blown onto Druridge Bay beach, Northumberland, by a strong onshore wind.

I've never seen anything like this amount of the stuff before. While it's a novel thing to see, and kind of fun to watch dogs play in, it's disturbing to find that it may be a harbinger of changes afoot in the North Sea and in the global climate.

The foam is formed (according to the site below) by a micro-organism called phaeocystis. With excessive nutrients, it blooms out of control and forms large gelatinous blobs. When whipped up by wind and waves, they become sea foam. The blooms also produce a volatile sulphur compound that contributes to climate change.

Meet at the Harbor Patrol Office in Morro Bay, CA at 9:00am. Volunteers will be transported over to the spit by the Harbor Patrol or Coast Guard, with return transport pick-up around 11:30 for a noon arrival at the Harbor Patrol office. (Volunteers should be prepared to hop off the bow in shallow water and may get a little bit wet). Volunteers will be furnished with all of the necessary instructions and materials at the site. This event was part of the www.oceanconservancy.org/ International Coastal Cleanup project of the Ocean Conservancy, which, in partnership with organizations and individuals across the globe, Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup engages people to remove trash and debris from the world's beaches and waterways, identify the sources of debris, and change the behaviors that cause marine debris in the first place. At last year's Cleanup, nearly 400,000 volunteers collected more than 6.8 million pounds of trash in 100 countries and 42 US states, while in San Luis Obispo County, 1,290 volunteers removed 4,611 pounds of debris from local coastline. The moon's near side -- the side that's almost always visible to the earth. Visible features of the near side on a full moon are the its craters and "seas" -- the dark areas. Previously(before the high end telescopes and moon explorations), the dark spots of the moon were thought to be bodies of water -- seas -- by the astronomers observing using their telescopes. Some of the features were later named as seas, hence, "sea of tranquility", "sea of serenity", etc. They would later turn out to be large valleys and lowlands. The lighter and higher areas, brilliantly illuminated by the sun and has a slightly different surface are called the "highlands" or terrae.

The Apollo 11 moon landings(first time a man landed on the moon by traversing more than 380,000 kilometers) were on the area called the Sea of Tranquility.

This is the moon, the only natural satellite of the planet earth. Sea of Tranquility is the area where the first (Apollo 11) of several Apollo missions landed. It is called Mare Tranquillitatis(in Latin).

Technote: 200mm was not nearly enough glass to get in close. Handheld was inexcusable if trying to get a decent image. This was just a fun snapshot as I was walking by with my 70-200 f/2.8 general purpose lens.

This evening we had lot of fun with fishing and photo shooting..
Wish you a great weekend..

During this shot, my feet and tripod were in the sea. six exposure. The last exposure is of 1 minute. F/18 and circular polarize for reduction of light. Don't have a natural GND filter, yet.

F/18 seems not to be a sweet spot for the kit lens because the image was not sharp as I expected. To compensate that I did some unsharp masking.

Tonemapped HDR. PS Curves adjusted.
